Shifter linkage mystery cable.
Shifter linkage mystery cable.
Ok I can,t seem to come up with the proper search criteria for this so.....
Exactly what is the third cable on the shifter linkage for?
Its an A4 and I know one is shifter cable to the tranny and I think the solenoid one is for step on brake to shift from park but what is the third cable for?
I am doing an A3 swap and need to know if I can delete this cable.
Otherwise I am going to have to pull the seats and yank the carpet and trace it down.

Oh I get it, you guys want me to work for it don,t ya?
Ok I guess I gotta trace it down and see where it goes.
Let ya know what I find.

Re: Shifter linkage mystery cable.
The third cable is for the ignition lock. It keeps you from turning the key all the way off unless you are in park. It is to prevent locking the steering column by accident. You can remove the cable and your switch will turn no matter what gear you are in but then it would be possible to accidently lock the steering column with the car moving.
