from what i hear the factory hurst is just fine with a short stick and that its not worth it to go to a pro 5.0 or a ripper shifter from a hurst...but some cars didnt get the factory hurst and in that case it is well worth the upgrade. Be sure you really do have a Hurst in there.

I also hear that the Hurst is a pretty good shifter, at least I think it is. I love the feel of the Pro 5.0 though. The stock shifter is so sloppy it's not even funny, the Hurst is so much nicer than stock.

Yep ... All I can say is the Pro 5.0 kicks some serious tail. I've had it for ~18 months and haven't missed a 2-to-3 shift with it ... If you're happy with the Hurst then stay with it.

2-3 was never a problem for me...its the 3-4 that gets me most of the time.

I put on a Jarrods short stick and really wouldnt see the need to spend all that money on a new shifter. How do you know if you got a Hurst from the factor?

your shifter stick will be long and angled, not straight. Also there is a code on the door

Some people like the Hurst and will tell you an aftermarket shifter isn't necessary....I had the Hurst and swapped it with the Pro 5.0 and I personally prefer the 5.0, it's awfully hard to miss a 2-3 shift with it which is the one that gives people the most trouble. I think it's much like the great catback debate...everyone has different opinions of which catback sounds the best, and everyone will have their own shifter opinion...if you get a chance to drive an F-body with an aftermarket shifter, try it and see how it feels, that'd be the best thing.

no.. the stock OEM factory Hurst is not angled..
If you have the original handle it has an H on it and is a pistol grip as opposed to a ball..

The one you buy from the aftermarket is angled.. Thats the worst feeling stick ever..

The OEM Hurst has a shorter throw but it still has some of that spongyness, but no where near as bad as the stock shifter..

You can get one of those handles off ebay for about $40 and it does a world of difference to the stock shifters so I can imagine it will even help out the factory hurst if you want it shorter..

How can anyone have a problem with the 3-4 shift? Do you have the stock shifter? With the Pro-5.0, I shift from 3-4 with my FINGERS! Everything is so easy with the Pro-5.0!

Yeah i would think it would be very hard to miss the 3-4 shift. But i guess it could happen. I know with the pro 5.0 like omega said i can shift all the gears with my fingers. The 2-3 shift is basically impossible to miss. I haven't missed it yet in over 5 months. I can't say anything bad about the pro 5.0 shifter.
