shift solieniod

i have a 94 z28 automatic with 93,000 miles. recently my car started acting up and when i first start the car everything seems alright, but the car gets stuck in first til i hit revv limiter, then it goes into second and when it does the service engine soon light comes on. then once its in second the car wont go back to first and it launches foms second gear, once i turn the cr off, it starts all over and the light is off untill i get it to go into second. think it could be a shifter soliniod?

Sounds like it to me, or a valve stuck in the valve body. You should be able to manually shift down to first and up to second until you can get around to fixing it. The manual valve should bleed pressure off if you go down to 1 and then up to 2. Change em both when you get in there, they're cheap. I think your bad one will be on the drivers side.

Only other thing I can really think of that would do that is either a stuck checkball in the seperator plate or an internal mechanical failure. Try the noids first. Change the filter while you're in there.

We have a "Drivetrain" forum for questions like this. I'll move it there for you.

You are setting limp mode have the car scanned and get the codes and the answer will be there
