which shift kit?
which shift kit?
I was wanting to know what kind of shift kit you guys would recommend? I was looking on ebay and saw some were electronic and some looked like you had to break into the tranny and install some parts. Either way is fine by me. I have a 94 z28 auto without traction control button. (A4 right?) My car will be mainly stock but with the usual cai, exhaust, maybe a chip or something.
The best type of shift kit to use (maybe I should say shift "improver" or "enhancer") is a mechanical kit vs. an electronic tranny program. I've currently got a Hypertech programmer which allows you to change shift points and also shift firmness, but they're not as effective or as good for the longevity of the transmission as far as I've heard. The best thing is to have a true mechanical kit installed.
B&M I believe makes a shift kit for the 4L60E (A4), but the Trans-Go kit is also supposed to be good, and for the 4L60E, I've heard on here that it's actually a better kit than B&M's.

No, even with the Hypertech set at its "100%" firmness setting, it's not neck snapping!
I had a true shift kit in my old '81 Z28 though, so I know the type of snap you're talking about
. I've got the Hypertech mainly because I changed to 3.73's last year (although I'm back on 2.73's right now
) but I'm likely doing a gear change again this year, and I needed some means of re-programming the speedo
. For the time being, I figured "why not" boost the firmness if I can, but I'm thinking about having a real shift kit installed this year as well. From what I've read/heard, they're better than "programming" firm shifts.
