Our cars only came with one pan. Just tell them its a 97 Z28 auto and they will have the part. It is not a deep pan, I guess you could call it a shallow pan.
Enjoy removing it, and be sure and empty it b4 removing it completely to avoid a total fluid bath. It should have come with a drain plug, but did not.

Interesting, who is "them"?
I went to the Autozone website, and they listed one.
I just went to O'Rielly's they listed 2. Sounds like you'll have to crawl under and look. Here is their criteria:
•16 Bolt Shallow Pan
•Flat Bottom

•16 Bolt Deep Pan 2-7/8 Inch Thick, Stepped Bottom

So if you have a flat bottom (like my g/f ) you have a shallow pan.
If you have a stepped bottom, it is the deep model.
Good luck.

K. When you tell us where you went, it makes it easier for us to assist.
I would stick with Dex III, that's what is already in there, why change? You aren't doing a flush, so lots of Dex III is going to remain in the tranny and converter.
