Series 2 or Series 3?

I have a carrier sitting in my lap from an LT1 Z28.....problem is I don't know if it's a 2 or a 3 series. It has the reluctor ring, but I have no idea what ratio gears were on it. Is there any way to tell? i treid putting a 2.73 ring gear on it, but it wouldn't slide down to the abs ring....there was about a 1/4" of space that it wouldn't slide cause it hits on a lip.

Re: Series 2 or Series 3?

Measure from the flange where the ring gear goes to the farthest end.

2 series = 5 1/4"
3 series = 4 7/8"

The 3 series has a thicker flange.
