I know people hate to hear this, but if you do a search you will see some informative posts on this subject.

In brief, a higher hp car will have proportionally less loss than a lower power setup. WRT a 4th gen, an M6 will lose ~12-15%. The loss for an auto is higher and will depend a lot on the converter. Figure 17-20+%.

It's not an exact science, and it's really not terribly important that you can't make a hard and fast conversion. The useful thing about a chassis syno is that it provides a reproducible, precise, if not entirely accurate gauge of power output. While it may not give an accurate absolute number, it will allow you to asses the effects of tuning and modifications.

Yeah, what the Doc ^^^ said .

To say that the loss is "15%" for example, usually people calculate that loss when the car is stock. That's when it's easiest because you know "roughly" what the engine HP is supposed to be, so when you get the car dyno'd, you can calculate the RWHP over the FWHP, and find out the percentage loss.

I don't know what #'s LT1's put out, but I think they're rated at 285 HP, right? and let's say that the drivetrain loss is 15% when stock. That would mean around ~240 RWHP, and about ~45 HP lost through the drivetrain (transmission and gears). So given that the loss is 15%, you could take your dyno numbers of 282 HP / 303 TQ, divide them by 15% loss, and get 331 HP / 356 TQ. However, we already determined that the drivetrain loss was ~45 HP, so basically add 45 to 282, and get 327 HP. It all works out around the same until you start adding 100, 200, +++ HP, then that % becomes less and less.............basically, just like Rich said above!!
