Running without the lower tqConverter cover on
Is it bad to drive your car without the lower metal Torque Converter cover on? I do daily drive my car in the summer. It seams that this cover could hold some of the converters heat in. So let me know if you guys drive with or without this cover on.
Thanks
Thanks

It's fine just don't get caught in a lot of rain, there is a small chance water could get up past the input shaft seal if you got in enough water.
Re: Running without the lower tqConverter cover on
Drive with it on. It is there for a reason. It prevents dirt, sand, and anything else from flying up into the converter, and rear main seal. It does not hold that much heat in. Infact, when I took mine off after driving the car for nearly 2 hours, it was warm to the touch, not hot. If you are worried about heat then get a transmission cooler.

If daily driving it I also recommend leaving it on.
I have a JW ultrabell on my TH400 and it has no provisions to install the cover, but my car is a garage queen that only sees weekend street racing and cruising.

Re: Running without the lower tqConverter cover on
it's funny I was just having this debate witha friend last night he says take it off but I wanna keep it on, mostly for the reasons above like sand and dirt damaging the seals.
Re: Running without the lower tqConverter cover on
well it's there, it shouldnt be pulled to aid in cooling, that's what tranny coolers, deep sump finned aluminum trans pans, and racing tranny fluid are for, the aptly named 'dust cover' has a purpose, i mean you wouldnt drive down the street with your air cleaner off for fear of dust and rocks and crap flying straight into your carb, so why would you wanna drive without your transmission dust cover?
the front seal on your engine is made to be in the open, the greased front seal on your transmission and rear main seal on your engine are not, neither is your torque converter, flexplate gears, starter gears....if you limit yourself to clean drag strips and whatnot it's fine but... otherwise, it would not be smart to pull it
