Roller pilot bearing install in LT1

Howdy folks, when installing a roller pilot bearing for a T56 into an LT1 which side of the bearing should face the engine when you tap it into the crank? There seems to be a short solid spacer on one side and a roller bearing on the other side, does the bearing side face the engine or should i flip it around so the spacer is facing the block?

Thanks!

Honest answer is I'd never run the bearing, too much chance of failure, I only run bushings.

Cool, did some searching and seems like bushings are the way to go! Is it possible to get one from a local parts store or dealership? Any chance you know a part number? or a year/model of vehicle that got the bushings?

Thanks!!!

Edit: Did some reading and discovered that the bearing side is suppose to face the engine and the "beveled side" is suppose to face the trans and guide the input shaft. Also the bushing doesn't require any lube...the stuff on there is fine. I didnt add any lube but mabey that will help someone

Heres a pic of the bearing, the side facing you is the side that will be facing the trans...

I still think im going to use a bushing...man that bearing is going to suck to remove

I got mine from the local parts store I believe, they offered either one if I remember correctly.

Wet toilet-paper or grease and a shaft work great to remove pilot bearings/bushings.

LS1 cars come from the factory with the roller style bearing. They also come pre-greased. The GM LS1 bearing will fit an LT1 crank. I would say you are completely safe using one. The side with 2 surfaces and the larger hole faces out.

*shrugs* I've personally seen 2 of the bearings fail and take the tranny out with it, I'm not using one...

Re: Roller pilot bearing install in LT1

There are a couple ways to get that bearing out but the way I did it was to rent the slide hammer from Auto Zone. Their good one! It was so easy it was pathetic. I tried one from checker first and it wouldn't work so go to Auto Zone.

There are a couple long threads on here about the bearing or bushing.
I went with the bearing. One of the threads has the part number for it. It supposed to be a better bearing

Yeah, as far as the bearing goes I would only use a GM bearing or a Timken bearing, I'm afraid of everything else.
