Ripper shifter Working, and then Not Working

96 formula M6
Here's the deal,
Car was totally gutted for alittle over a year and just got everything back together. Right before we gutted the car the tranny was re-built and I drove on it for 2 months and it worked wonderfully with the stock shifter.

Now the we have it all back together I threw a Ripper on shifter I got from a buddy and it goes into gear fine when the car is at idle. Once you start going only 1st and 4th work. But then if you start out in 2nd, it goes into 3rd then 4th with no problem.

I have also backed out the adjustments on the shifter to make sure they arent hitting.
WHat the heck is wrong with my Tranny?
Should I try the Stock Shifter?
Is there a trick to setting the Ripper Shifter in place?
