RIP 10bolt
RIP 10bolt
I sent my rear to the grave last night.. And thats all on factory internals, just minor bolt-ons so far. I'm with a new friend of mine who is a rice burner lover, so i said "Whats the fastest car you've ever been in?" right about the time he replied, i gunned it in second and CLANK, THUMP THUMP THUMP.. I thought it was the driveshaft at first, then when i realized nothing was hanging and it wasnt an engine problem....
So now what to do.. This kinda forces me to FINALLY get on my H/C project, but now i need a good rear end. I was thinking of going 9" because I hear you can build one to support like 500BHP and up to high 10's for cheaper than a 12 bolt.
what do you guys think I should do? Upgrade to a 9" or 12 bolt? should I just fix whatever is broken and rebuild it?
I'm on a bit of a budget, I still have about 400 dollars worth of oil pump and gaskets and fasteners to buy before i can install my H/C. But I think I might be able to afford 900 dollars or so more. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys.

If you can find a way to put a 9" together for under $1K, please let me know. I'm not all that excited with the $2K+ price tags out there...
Re: RIP 10bolt
hahaha! I just drove it and it only clanks twice a revolution of the wheels only in gear of course, but it clanks HARD. I only drive it about 50 feet then parked it. does that sound like the axle shaft or whatever or the ring and pinion gears?
Re: RIP 10bolt
thats the same reaction I had. My friend was in the car with me and was totally suprised that i wansnt angry, and that I was laughing. I told him, "this happens to even stock camaros all the time. Plus I was being stupid so we should both be laughing"
Re: RIP 10bolt
yes, but I'm going to do my research and ask the drivetrain guys what I should do. I think I can do all the work to make a 9" possible.
Edit: thank you mods for moving it.
