Reprogramming for a 3500 stall TC?
Reprogramming for a 3500 stall TC?
Getting ready to replace my current A4 w/ a high performance 4L60E and 3500 stall TC. This goes in a '94 w/ OBD1. What, if any, shifting problems can I expect due to a stall >3000 and do I need to have the PCM reprogrammed for a stall this high? Have done a search and didn't gain a clear-cut answer.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Yes, you should get reprogramming done.
Reason 1:
With any stall close to or greater than 2800, you run the risk of possibly having the "stall wall" problem of the odb1 computer. This could mean your engine will bounce off the rev limiter at WOT cause the tranny doesn't shift. It could also cause the computer to put your car into limp mode, setting an SES code and sticking you in the 1:1 gear for the rest of the drive home. If any of this occurs, you definately need the "stall wall" fix.
To my understanding, only about 10% of cars have the stall wall issue, and only about 10% of those cannot be fixed. The odds are, you'll be fine by just throwing it in, but you never know.
Reason 2:
Better performance through tweaked shift points, etc...
