I assume you're talking about the rears since you're talking about just wheel bearings. You'll need new seals as well. Basically, you have to take off the diff cover, remove the pinion shaft retaining screw & pinion shaft (I think that's what it's called), remove the c-clips, pull the axles out, pull the seals out, and remove the bearings. The seals and bearings can be removed w/out a puller but it's a pita and you run a good chance of nicking the axle tube (could cause a leak).
It's a fairly involved project, and the best time to do it is when you're swapping gearsets. Unless you have a lift and do this all the time it'll probably take you several hours, assuming all goes well- the little bolt that holds that shaft in has a tendency to get whittled down and break. If it's broke you have to drill it out, and it's not an easy spot to drill into either. I ended up just cutting the diff case to get it out and buying a used diff online.

The C-clip axles are easy to work on once understand how they come apart and go together. If you have 4-channel ABS and traction control, you'll need to loosen the sensors (both sides) and slide them back-in to allow the axles to be pushed-in to release the C-clips. Yes, the spider gear cross pin must come out first.
The axles "are" the bearing surface (inner race) and need to be checked for pitting and must be replaced if pitted. This is also a good time to add longer lug-nut studs, as the OEMs are very short for most wheel applications.
Also, make sure your posi unit is good, if not, it is a good time to replace it.

The spider gear cross pin retaining bolt can be easily removed with a 1/4 inch ratchet, extension and appropriate (small) socket. The swivel type extension works best for this because you can't quite get on the bolt head (straight on) from the side.
I made the very stupid mistake of using a thread locker on that little bolt and figure I'm in for a load when I go to remove it next time
