Can I replace them in my shifter?? My springs seem to be shot. I can't even locate the homepage for the company that makes the shifter, any help?

i didnt think the Pro 5.0 had springs, if i remember correctly there is a rubber piece in there that works as a spring. i have no idea how you would go about replacing that.

that sucks, i'm going to pull the shifter and take a look.

Anyone have the "book" or anything that came with the shifter, I'm looking for the phone # or website of the actual manufacturer of the shifter to ask....

Re: replacing pro-5.0 shifter springs??

Mine is brand new and its doing the same thing, just put it in yesterday.

Website is www.pro50.com

Keep me updated on what you find out.

Ive done some searches and it seems that there is springs that keep it centered and you can replace them or shim them to make them a bit stronger. I think its BS that you should have to do this to the most expensive shifter on the market.

My directions that came with it were a half hand written

Not impressed with it at all. I like my facotry hurst better.

My pro5.0 worked great for around 3 years. THen I had my tranny rebuilt and a shop to the install/removal. Now it's less springy, maybe they messed something up, but I can't see how really.

I found that site before, i didn't think it was the official site because it looks like 12 year olds designed it............

Oh well, I will pull the shifter this weekend, and see whats up, i'll post an update.

Re: replacing pro-5.0 shifter springs??

I've got mine torn apart, and after 50K miles on the shifter, and 97K on the tranny everything is getting rebuilt.

I'll post what springs I'm using when I get back home, I'm on the road for work.

Mine was also getting weak and shimming did help, but I'm just going to put stronger springs in the shifter when I re-assemble it. I'll post what springs that I'm going to use later this week.

The dis-assembly and rebuild is easy, and only took hand tools. I got plenty of use out of mine before any trouble even started to show, and after 50K miles, I expect some wear.

As for a new unit acting up, that's not right, unless there's issues in the tranny as well like a worn spring on the shifter linkages where it's not pressing the ball into the pattern stops strong enough where the linkage is not providing enough force for a return-to-center.

.

I dont think its my tranny since the factory hurst I had returned fine. I might see if i can take the springs from the hurst and put them in the pro 5.0

I took apart my hurst and did a whole bunch of shimming and swithching around of springs in the Pro 5.0. I cant get it right though. It will either center from the left, or the right, not both.

I put a few washers on the end of the springs inside the shifter to compress the springs more, works great. very customizable too, you can adjust the springy-ness by add/removing washers

Re: replacing pro-5.0 shifter springs??

I got mine fixed up and working good. I went to the hardware store and bought new springs.

The springs were a smaller diameter and fit inside the springs that come with the shifter. So basically its a dual spring setup in each side now.

The springs were a 5/16" diameter and the wire thicknes was .047". The length i bought was two inches, but i cut them down to just under an inch. Pretty much just the same length as the ones that just came with it.

Cost me ~$3. I could not make the shimming idea with washers work for me. I would either get one side to return or the other.

Its BS that i had to do this to a brand new shifter and i will bad mouth pro 5.0 every chance i get. Its a good shifter, but it wasnt worth it to go from my factory hurst to this thing.

Why do you have to bad-mouth them? Discuss your experience and go from there.

Also, if you are so un-happy about the shifter, then why don't u go back to the factory hurst? I mean I'm sure you can sell the Pro with no problems.

By bad mouth I mean not recomend them to someone who is in the market for a shifter. I wont be going out of my way and telling people its garbage

I guess the thing that really has me angry about this is that its the most expensive shifter, its not some cheapy POS. Like I said, its a nice shifter, but if you already have a short shifter in you car there is no need to switch to this one. Its not miles ahead of everything else out there like so many people say it is.

A couple reasons why I dont go back to the hurst and return this one. The main one is that I had to cut the inner rubber shift boot to install the
Pro-5.0, so its not as easy just switching shifters. I would get all kinds road debris under the console, and also whole lot of road noise since it woldnt have any kind of a seal. Also, like I said above, it is a nice shifter, it does shift smoother than the hurst, but to me it isnt worth the extra cost.

That's fair. I've just seen some people t-off about products and not just give a fair opinion; you sound like you will though.

Re: replacing pro-5.0 shifter springs??

I've had the Pro 5.0 shifter in my car for 5 years now, and I have had ZERO problems with it. It worked great when I put it in and it continues to work great now. In addition to that, I've made well over 100 passes at the track with it and have never missed a shift .
