rebuilding a t56
rebuilding a t56
has anyone ever attempted to disassemble and rebuild their own t56. if so how hard was it, how long did it take and what was your final cost of the parts you replaced? the reason i ask is because im interested in a t56 swap but its hard to find low mileage trannys and i dont want to be screwed if somthing goes wrong. Also if anyone is interested in selling me a complete conversion kit for an lt1 just message me.
Thank you,
steve

Check ebay, I think I remember seeing a few on there for LT1. As for how to rebuild a T56, go here:

My Dad & I just rebuilt mine last winter, and it was surprisingly "easy" for the most part!
The important thing would be having the right tools (the pullers / presses, etc.). Otherwise, all of the pieces come apart pretty much in one order only, so you "almost" can't screw it up!
I think I spent nearly ~$1200 in parts alone though!!
(needed 2nd gear, a couple synchro hubs, plus all the synchros) ..... oh yeah, and that was with LAST YEAR's Canadian $$$
. This year it would probably be cheaper!

ehh what up pete long time... thats an expensive repair.
ill be doing the same this year while im in the shop at durham tearing mine apart and doing a small rebuild replacing all the synco's and shift forks with the good stuff before it goes in next year. should be rather interesting but i want to make sure its a 100% before it goes in then to waste all the time pulling it out again and taking away cruising time.
