rebuilding 4l60e?
Re: rebuilding 4l60e?
Do you have any experience rebuilding transmissions?
I was told that with the 4L60E, its best to leave the rebuild to someone with years of experience. They're so complex, it would be very easy for some stuff to get overlooked. Also they require a VERY clean work area, since something as minor as rag lint can clog a spool valve.
Though if you still would like to try it, its best to go to a junkyard or somewhere else and get you some already damaged 4L60E's to take apart so you learn a little bit about them first.

Re: rebuilding 4l60e?
The 4L60E isn't a "beginers" transmission. There are many updated, and performance parts that we use to get these things to hold up in a racing enviroment. Aside from just throwing parts in a transmission, it takes a good amountof knowledge to get one right.

Ya, Rebuid it yourself. at this point what do you have to lose? It makes me laugh when some one asks a question how to do something on a 4l60E there is either no reply or someone starts banging the CPT drum.
Then here come all the offers to rebuild it for ya. It's obviuos you can't rebuild these trannies to a parts configuration matching the power output of a V-6 wich is what alot of low price rebuilds do. And it is tricky but it can be done. It'll cost $600 plus in parts not to mention your time, If it's a whorthwhile gamble for ya...Go for it.....But if you've never done anything mechanical before forget it pay the money and have somone else do it.

i think CPT has a good thing going if i can get the money. i have gotten alot of answeres back about rebuilding it. no offers to do it for me. i am gathering that it is a hard tranny to work on though. and i wont be able to build it to handle the power i will be putting out

No, throwing a shift kit in an otherwise stock transmission won't work, either.

Re: rebuilding 4l60e?
Also, if you are going to do it yourself be very careful you note where every different size bolt from the valve body came from. The reason for this is because if you put the wrong length bolt into a hole designed for a different length one, you will clog or open a fluid passage that isn't supposed to be.
Plus there are many other little things like that to look out for.
