Rearend Swap, What do I need to do?

I have a 99TA with 3:23s and no traction control. I want to swap it for a rearend that came out of a 02TA with traction control. What do I have to do to make this rearend work in my 99TA.

Thanks,
Curt

I just replaced the carrier on my 2000 z28. Your 99 T/A did not come with ASR (right?) That makes me think your axles will not have the teeth and sensor pick-up for ASR. Look behind the disc brake backing plate on your T/A. I maybe off here but if you reply back with more info I will get with some friends that work at a GM ( Chev ) dealer and ask them.

ASR equipped vehicles will have a sensor at each axle (and the axles are different, as already stated). Non ASR equipped will only have a sensor on the center pumpkin of the rear. The sensors also double as input for the ABS. That is going to cause some wiring issues. I am not sure if that has been overcome by anyone.

My 99TA does not have ASR, so I only have the ABS sensor in the pumpkin. The rearend that I'm getting is out of a 02TA and is complete from backing plate to baking plate. The 02TA rearend does have ASR, so it has the ABS sensors at the backing plates. I'm thinking if I get the ABS sensor for each backing plate and the wiring harness that goes from the sensors to the drivers side rear floor pan (where it plugs into the main harness), that sould be all I need to do. I've already checked this connector and it has 4 pins in it. My ABS sensor on my 99TA only has 2 wires, so I'm guessing that this main harness connector doubled for cars with and without ASR. I hope this gives you the information that you need.

Thanks,
Curt

I did that swap and here was my 'solution'.

Before i put the new 4channel axle in I drilled a hole in the pumpkin for the 3 channel sensor. I don't have a reluctor gear in the new pumpkin so of course it doesn't work right now. In theory i could add the reluctor gear/ring in the future when i have money for it and the sensor will be lined up well enough for it to work. I've heard those sensors are very finicky and I do have some slight doubts that it will work since the sensor position is ever so slightly off due to me being hasty with the drill ..... .

94formulabz-Thanks for the reply, but I think I'm going to try the 4 channel setup on my 3 channel car. According to the schematic, the LR sensor (4 channel) and the sensor in the pumpkin (3 channel) send signals to the same pins on the ABS computer. Just was hoping someone did this swap and was able to confirm it with me.

Thanks,
Curt

That's great news for anyone doing a Ford 8.8 conversion on a car with 3 channel ABS.

I'll look for a 4ch ABS rear for the conversion and run the pumpkin sensor wires over to one of the 4 channel sensors. That'll be a lot easier than trying to mess with the 8.8 housing/yoke.
