Rearend Rebuild

Can anybody give me an estimate on how much it would cost to totally rebuild my rearend, ie gear change?

To have it done yourself?

When I finish, it will cost me around $300 for the gears and rebuild kit which includes the pinion bearings, carrier bearings, pinion seal, shims.

This does not include the few tools I had to buy because I did not have or the paint to paint my axle.

No idea on having someone else do it.

Cool Rearend Rebuild

Yeah, I'm gonna do it myself. I don't think I have to change my gear though, had the rearend open to drain and change fluid, which there was very little of, and the gears looked ok. I'm gonna buy a Richmond gear installation kit with all bearings and seals, and change all those things out. Also, do you know, if I'm not changing the gears, just replacing all bearings and seals, will I have to reset pinion depth and lash? And do I need the tool to check pinion depth and soforth? Thanks for the info

no, you will not have to reset pinion depth, just reuse all the old shims and follow all torque specs, including torque to turn on the pinion and you should have no trouble whatsoever, do not use a impact to crush the crush sleeve, you will need something to hold the pinion yoke and a large breaker bar
