rearend girdle?
rearend girdle?
I just picked up this months Camaro Performers magazine and saw an article on a rearend girdle for GM 7.5" rears. I know that these rearends are crap and I should ditch it for a 12 bolt 9" but the bottom line is that I am a broke college kid and can't afford one. This girdle is supposed to keep some pressure on the bearing caps which is supposed to strengthen the whole assembly. I was wondering if anyone has one of these and if it is really worth the money. I recently priced one and they are around $150. My car has very few modifications but as time goes on the power will increase, and I always worry about dropping the clutch with a pair of slicks on it at the drag strip and hearing a kaboom. If anyone has heard anything about this product please lend me some advice on if it is worth the money.
Nothing you'll do to the 10 bolt will help save it when you're doing that. You need something aftermarket (bigger).
The TA girdle may help us a little with the auto trans, but as was stated, with a stick it's probably a waste of money.
it will help the rear be more stable...if he's doing 4 grand clutch drops on slicks he's gonna bust, but if he realizes its still a 10 bolt it could allow him to launch a little harder/keep the rear together a little bit longer
