Re: rear end swap?

New question: how can you convert a 4-channel to a 3- channel? Without keeping TC...

Re: rear end swap?

you can't,well you could if you want to rebuild/replace a lot(too much). different brake hydraulics, different computor, different throttle control, different wiring.

Re: rear end swap?

I said without TC... wouldn't I just plug one of the speed sensors onto the centralized one on the 3 channel? How would the throttle control even be affected? Couldn't I just attach the brake hoses from the 3-channel to my car and use that?

Re: rear end swap?

The abs uses the four channels also; you would have to replace the abs motors, abs valve unit, proportioning valve, EBCM and maybe more. The cost of that would be way more than the extra cost a getting a 4 channel axle. Plus the 4 channel is better abs anyway as each rear wheel is independently operated.

Re: rear end swap?

I can't find a 4-channel anywhere.

On ls1tech I read threads where people said that its possible and all you have to do is leave the wheel sensors unplugged. They had no mention of replacing any ABS equipment. My car isn't used in the winter or rain so I'm not worried about TC or ABS, I just need a car to drive.

Re: rear end swap?

Look, all of this is over my rear's bearings being shot. Should I just tear my rear apart and pull the c clips so the axles come off? I feel like I could remove the bearings a lot easier than making a 3-channel work. True?

Re: rear end swap?

I thought you wanted to keep abs, if you don't care a three channel rear would work.

As far as rebuild, thats what I was going to suggest. You can get a complete rear end rebuild kit on line for $150-$200 which is all the bearings, seals, etc.; if the gears are bad, another $200. Getting the pinion depth and gear pattern correct is a little tricky to do and requires a dial indicator at a minimum but is really just a matter of being patient.

sorry if I seemed a bit impatient...I this situation was getting under my skin a bit.

thanks for taking the time to discuss this with me. I appreciate it.

anyways, my gears have been looked at and they are fine. my wheel bearings (and pinion seal due to bearing play) are shot. I think I will take the axle off THEN make my decision. sound reasonable?
