rear end question
Re: rear end question
As far as I know, they should be able to swap depending on what the car is equipped with (TCS, ABS, Etc.). I know from experience that sometimes if you mix parts from both it doesn't work out.
Re: rear end question
Yes, they are interchangable (I currently have an LT1 diff in my LS1 car
). It's easier if you get the matching diff to what you currently have in terms of having Traction Control or not.
What you need to do though is swap the plates from the end of the axle tubes that all your backing plates and brake hardware bolt up to (since LS1's use bigger brakes than LT1's).
When you actually have the 2 sitting side by side, it becomes very obvious what needs to be changed.

Re: rear end question
It's easier to use a diff that was originally non-TCS in a car with TCS. You have to swap that axles so you're using the ones with reluctor rings on them, but all the sensors are mounted externally with the brakes (they stay connected to YOUR car.....they don't come on the donor diff).
If you use a diff that was originally setup with TCS, but you don't have TCS on YOUR car, then there's more involved.
- First off, I don't believe the donor carrier would have a reluctor ring on it to trigger your ABS
(someone please correct me if I'm wrong??
). Unless all carriers are built with the reluctors rings on them!?
- Secondly, the donor diff would need the hole drilled out where the ABS sensor sits on the top of the "pumpkin" (directly over top of the carrier).
- Lastly, you may want to swap axles so you're not running the ones with reluctor rings on them. I don't think it would be a problem to leave them there, but why carry extra, unneccessary weight?
Like I said earlier, you're better off if you can get the same type of diff as your car already has if you want to do a swap. Ideally, it's easiest to keep LT1's / LS1's seperate, although that's not a big deal.....same goes for 3-channel / 4-channel ABS --- I mean 3-channel (ABS) or 4-channel (TCS).
