I just got my new Auburn pro posi and 4:10's installed last Friday and yesterday my abs light came on the went off. The rear has been whining on decel a lot latley so i pulled the cover today to put my TA cover on and found the exact same thing as i did when i broke it a couple weeks ago. Two chunks of gear and a lot of metal shavings. Only difference this time is i can't see the spiders gears that are broken like i could last time it broke! Can i pull the posi out with out messing up any clearences? I'm suposed to race on Sat. but all this crap keeps happening!

BTW i have NOT done any hard launches since the new rear was put in!

 

anyone know if i can remove the posi without messing up the clearances?

 

keep asking but its my understanding the clearences on those is set but shims on the pinion gear and the shims on the sides of the diff,so as long as you retain those you should be ok...but if you got pieces laying in there forget about racing sat cause you aint going anywhere

 

Don't mess with the shims and reinstall the side/axle bearing caps the same way they came out. And don't drop it on the bearings.

Is the shop competent? There should be no reason your gears keep breaking, unless they screwed up the pinion depth or the backlash. Did the whining sound get louder or was it the same since they were installed?

 

The only whine is a little bit on decel with no load. And it did that ever since i picked up the car! I mean i know it's possible he didn't clean all the chunks of gear out from the old posi, but i dunno. I have a 6 month warrenty on labor/installation. But i have no clue if there is a warrenty on the posi! What do you guy think i should do...there is no visable damage to the ring/pinon or the spiders gears...but of course i can only see about 50% of the spider gear inside the posi! Let me know what you guys think!

The Auburn Pro should be warrantied for a year just like my Richmond gears and Eaton LSD. Though you may need to send in a warranty registration card that's included with the instructions and stuff with the Auburn. If the shop tossed it I'd tell them they need to cover the warranty since they prevented you from sending it in. Good luck.
