In the spring i want to change the gears out in my trans am. I think i have 3.23 right now, and im thinking about going to 3.73. Can anybody give me some estimates on how much it costs to change this out?

 

Gears - $225
Install kit - $100
Labor - $150-300
Tune - $130

Mine was $700 all said and done. Then my 10 bolt blew up so it was basically a $700 tune

 

If you do not get the tune, will it just mess up the speedo, or will it effect tranny shifting, or other things...?

 

with the auto it will mess up shifting, because the computer reads multiple inputs and compares them and when all are met it allows the tranny to shift. The things it takes into consideration are:

• Throttle input
• Engine RPM
• Road Speed

Road Speed is a calculation based on gearing, so if you change you gears and don't change the tune then it will shift at the wrong time...

 

I had a shop install GM 4.10's for $480, parts and labor.
