rear end noise

there is some sounds coming from my rear end...it sorta sounds like the bearings wore out, but i changed the axelshaft bearings and put new ones in, and put mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in. I did not forget to put the rear end additive in either, and i have stock gears. I do have nitto tires, but this sound happens at really low speeds like backing out the driveway, so it is not road noise. I don't know what to look for, it is definitely not the brakes, i have checked those too. It is like a metallic sound almost like if you turned the rotor by hand and your brake pads were lightly touching, but you can hear it in the car. If there is any other information that could help you guys just ask.....thanks in advance.

How long ago were the bearings changed? Did you inspect the axle shaft for scoring or pitting? If you put new bearings on a "damaged" axle shaft it is going to tear up the bearings again and the noise will return.

Hope what I described above is not your problem b/c that would bite. However, when my bearings tore up at 25k it also tore up my right axle shaft. Pontiac replaced the bearings, seals and right axle shaft.

Do you have the performance axle? (limited slip unit) If so..they are notoriously noisy. Mine clacks at low speed slight turns. This occurs as the unit's clutches unlock so you can turn without hopping your tires around a corner.

ie likely nothing to worry about. Enjoy life.
