Rear end mods?

What does it take to narrow a rear end. I can get a 9" or 12 bolt real cheap and I was wondering what kind of price range would I be looking at to shorten the housing to fit under my 95. I can fabricate the mounting barackets and everything just wondering if the cost savings would add up I'm looking at $300 for a complete rear end plus the cost to narrow it and then buying some axles. I'd go back to spec width on the whole housing.

Re: Rear end mods?

Okay here's where I'm at, I can get:

Ford 9" complete for $200-300
GM 12 Bolt still looking for one
Narrowed down for my 95 for $200

I'll have the center carrier, I'll just need a gear and axles afterwards and make the mounts to bolt under my car. Looks like I can have a 9" or 12 bolt for under $1,000. Any thoughts suggestions.

Did you factor in the torque arm mount?

No, I figured I would just fabricate it as well. Why? What should I condsider about that mount?

I've also looked at just getting the rear axle housing and axles for $985 and just putting my own center section in. That way I wouldn't have to make all the mounts and stuff. All I'd have to do is put the center section in and go. Still be under $1,300. Not that I don't want to do it right, but I can't see paying $2200 for something when I have the resources to do it for less.
