Rear End Girdle Question
Rear End Girdle Question
This might be a dumb question but here goes: I was wondering if MAC makes a rear end girdle for an LT1 Camaro?
Reason I'm asking is cause when I bought my 97 Z it already had a few mods done to it (one being a MAC rear end girdle). When I put it away for the winter I changed all my fluids right before like I usually do and when putting the girdle back on after doing the diff. fluid, I was having a bit of a hard time getting some of the studs to tighten up properly. I noticed there wasn't 2 out of the set that were longer like on the T/A stud kits. Anyways, bottom line is I wanted to get a new stud kit, but when I went looking on the internet, I could not anything having to do with a MAC girdle for Camaros anywhere. In fact even going to the MAC site there were none listed for Camaro/Firebirds. There were for Mustangs, but not F-Bodys. So I'm wondering, is it likely that the owner before me put on the wrong type of girdle?

Re: Rear End Girdle Question
well, i think the 10 bolt was also used in s10s i believe, so the previous owner could've found it under s10
other than that, i can't really help you out
and doesn't the mac have a drain plug like the t/a's so you don't have to take the whole thing off?
i think i'm gonna upgrade to a t/a myself next year or something since i'll probably change my fluid again then

Re: Rear End Girdle Question
Yes, it does have the drain plug like the T/A girdle
Hmmmm, I didnt realize new era performance had them. Thanks for pointing that out Flyin_Z28. They'd be the first I've seen sell em. And like I posted before, I just find it weird that MAC doesnt even list them on their web site with all their other camaro/firebird products.
Still don't know where to get a new stud kit for it though, thats the hard part.

Re: Rear End Girdle Question
Thanks guys/girls for clarifying that for me.
Just one thing though. Still need a new stud kit for it. Anyone know where I can find one?
TIA,
Ryan

Re: Rear End Girdle Question
Just and idea here, you said that 2 of the bolts were longer than the others. Don't 2 of the bolts hold on a wire routing bracket for the rear park brake lines?
When I had my Summit cover on my 10 bolt all the bolts were the same length. I'd personally go to a local hardware store and buy some grade 8 bolts of the length you'd like and use them, much easier than trying to hunt down a new stud kit.

Re: Rear End Girdle Question
Yes, thank you, your right. I had forgotten about the 2 brackets for the parking brake. I can't recall when looking at the rear end of my car before it got put away, but i don't recall seeing those on there. I'm wondering if they got removed. Hmmmmmm......
The only thing is, I'm not sure exactly what length the bolts are supposed to be for the longer ones. If the original stud kit even came with 2 longers ones, like the T/A cover has. Cause all the ones that were in there when I got the car were the same length. Plus the fact I'm missing some washers. These bolts/washers seem to be hard to find for some reason, thats why i thought asking if anyone knew where i could find a stud kit might be easier.
Thanks again,
Ryan
