I have a 96 camaro z28 convertible with a intake and cat-back slp exhuast.
What series rear would i need to get 3.73s?
What series stock do i have?
And im pretty sure i have 2.73s stock in my car now.

Re: rear end gears

If you have an automatic and there is no selectable first gear on the console, then you have 2.73s and a 2-series carrier. If first is selectable then you have 3.23s and a 3-series carrier.

If you're a stickshift, you've got 3.42s.

Either way you can order gears for either carrier.

Re: rear end gears

Yes. The base model shifter indicater plate on the console starts with "2". That's the 2.73 rear car. The "performance rear axle" option gets you 3.23 gears, and the shifter indicater plate starts at "1".

Re: rear end gears

The only thing keeping a 2.73 car from selecting 1st gear is a little plastic nub on the shift mechanism, which disappeared from my car over a decade ago. However, the console still only shows 2nd gear, just as Injuneer stated.
jdelaprida, you can purchase 3.73 gears for either carrier. If you car came with 2.73 gears, you need a set for a 2-series carrier. I run Strange, but I believe they are also made by Motive and Richmond.
If your car came with the less common 3.23 gears, you need a set for a 3-series carrier.
