rear axle removal

I need some help!
I can't get my pinion shaft to push out should it be hard to move.
Could not bring myself to beat on it.
Any helpful advice would greatly welcome!

Re: rear axle removal

Assuming we're talking a 3rd/4th Gen 10-bolt, did you remove the differential pinion gear shaft locking bolt?

Re: rear axle removal

the small outer pinion bearing is a slight press fit onto the pinion,it has to be beat out. find something to set against it in its' center, otherwise you'll screw up the threads just beating on it with a hammer.

Re: rear axle removal

Not really clear from his initial post, or from his reply to my question (he indicates he removed a "nut" when I asked him if he removed the locking "bolt"????), but I THINK he's asking about the pinion shaft for the differential spur gears, not the main pinion gear shaft. You have to remove the locking BOLT (not a nut) and pull the spur gear pinion shaft out of the carrier in order to access the C-clip to remove the axles (which is the topic of his thread????). There are no bearings or threads on that shaft.

On the other hand, you may be correct - he may be trying to pull the pinion gear out of the housing.

Re: rear axle removal

I agree,so I answered to the other potential situation.
A picture by the OP would clear the matter up.
