Questions about installing driveshaft
I picked up a used Aluminum driveshaft for my 86 Camaro. I washed the driveshaft and cleaned it up real nice. I now want to make sure that my U joints are in ship shape. Where do I want to grease the U joints and with what kind of grease?? Can I use an all purpose grease as long as it stays?? Should I get brand new U joints while I am at it?
Any other tips or info on installing a driveshaft would be great also.
Thanks in advance
Nick

If it was me, I would get some Heavy Duty U-joints while it's out. Have a machine shop press the old out and new in, they should come with grease "zerks" between the bearing cups, one per u-joint. All purpose grease will do fine. Make sure all joints move free and smoothly, if one seems stiff, strike the driveshaft near the bearing that's stiff. That will seat the bearing cup in the shaft and free it up.
If your transmission tailshaft seal has been leaking, nows the time to replace it. Pry it out with a screwdriver and drive the new one in place using a piece of pipe or large socket, the same diameter as the new seal.
