Question to those with automatic's (700R4) important.

I have a question to those of you with the 700R4. My '93 Firebird is my first car. I've never driven any other fbody so I don't really know how my 700R4 is supposed to behave.

A few years back, I threw in a 2400 stall converter. After the install, I noticed that whenever I'd drop the hammer (at say, 60km/h), ther'd be a split second where nothing would happen. Then the car would just pull like crazy. As if it was just rear ended by a MAC truck or something. I really liked the feeling and just figured it was the result of my new torque converter.

But as the years went by, that all started to change and that "pinned in my seat feeling dissapearded all together. I just got my car back after rebuilding my tranny and took her out to see whether or not that slight hesitation was there and sadly, it wasn't. Maybe it's just me, but the car feels slower now. When I hit the gas it accelerate's kind of slowly. It's hard to explain but it just felt a lot faster before when I had that moment of nothing than WHAM !! The car would take off..

My question is, when you mat the gas, does your car just accelerate, or is there a slight pause before the car starts to pick up speed?

Cool

No pause here.Is the car tuned ok?Rpms should be around 650 or so I think.Might try the drive trane section for this one.Might need a throttle cable adjust,I dunno. But the trans should be a ready to jump when you floor it,with no hesitation.My02

The kickdown cable may need to be adjusted. Or maybe your engine is getting a little tired, the car is 11 years old now.

All my old 700R4 transmissions either worked like a swiss watch, or they broke. I like my 6 speed though.

Or your torque converter could be freshened up. The fins may be a little bent after fun...

this is exactly what I was thinking. my LT1 has a 700r4 behind it now and it acts ilke you say. very slight hesitation, and your off. not a bog or anything, just a split second goes by then pulls. you should try to adj. the cable a click in either direction to see if this helps/hurts the feel. also making it tighter a click or two can raise shift points/firmness if desired. do you have a shift kit in there? that will (should) also make it act a little more aggressivly. if adj. the cable doesnt do anything, Id do a leakdown test on the motor. if that comes back ok, then maybe get the conv. freshened or replaced. how many mi.s on the conv?
