Question about gears.. local shop's e-mail included

I inquired a local shop about having 3.73's installed in place of my 2.73's, all while keeping the 2 series carrier.

email :
You would need to change out the carrier as well. We have tried to use the spacer kit before and it only works for a short time and then ruins the gears. I wont do it unless there is a 3 series carrier. All the prices are on our website as far as carriers and gears.
Have any of you guys (who have 3.73's with the thicker ring gear in their 2-series carrier ) had any problems with your setup?

I am just curious.. because if not, then I may just start calling a few other shops..

I might be concerned if it was a "spacer kit", too. I don't think there are problems when using the thick gear that is available.

Thanks, for the insight. I had thought that the thicker ring gear was the way to go, as I have searched the forums reading about others' setups. From the searches I had read about how much a difference there is, and how much people loved them, but nothing about how they had broken (well, aside from improper installs ).

Well, I guess I know what I'm doing monday.. making some calls
