Question about 4L60E-mine is a 3 speed auto?

I got a used auto tranny from a 1995 firebird but it appears to be only a 3 speed. Someone said before this is due to the gear ratio on the firebird? Is there some type of block off plate that stops the last gear to go or what? Let me know what I have here and find out if I can get my OD again or is regular drive now OD? Also this was installed on my 1994 LT1 Camaro.

First off, '94 and '95 4L60E's are different. You'll need a '94 unit for your '94. Next, all 4L60E's are 4 speeds. if you've only got 3 forward gears, it's because the transmission is messed up, or it's because of the year mismatch

No. I read somewhere before that it is due to the car that the tranny came out having 2.73 gears. I cannot find the article I read before this is why I am asking.

Re: Question about 4L60E-mine is a 3 speed auto?

LT1 cars with 2.73 gears couldn't select 1st gear manually. They were still 4 speed autos. This had to do with the shifter not the trans.

On a 94 the D with the circle around it is overdrive and will give you all 4 gears.

The 95 trans has a different type of converter lock up. I don't know if
there are other wiring differences that might affect shifting.

If you aren't getting all 4 gears I would make sure the shift linkage is adjusted right. I think there is a guide at shbox.com . Because the 94 and 95 tranmissions are different if nothing is wrong with the trans or the linkage I would guess your problem is the wiring or computer program.
