qucik help about pinion bearing

The pinion bearing closet to the yoke. one with no shime, should it slide on the pinion easly? It seems like i have to take my impact to it to get it on.Its snaps-on new 1/2 in gun to. i dont want to screw up the bearings so i though i would ask. the othere rear ends i have done just seem to take alittle tap with a hammer to get the bearing on to the pinion. numbers on the bearing match the old one. should i take some light sand paper and take a few .000 off???
