Problem installing t5

I am having trouble putting in my t5. i originally had a 700r4 but i am swapping it out. anyways, i built a t5 and am in the process of putting everything in but i can't get the transn to mate with the bellhousing. i think its just not lining up with the pilot bushing but i can't get it in. there is about a half inch gap between the trans and bellhousing. any suggestions?

Re: Problem installing t5

Pop the tranny in any gear. Push in the tranny slightly while a buddy depresses the clutch pedal. This allows the clutch disk to float so that the tranny splines can align with the clutch disk splines and the tip of input shaft can align with the pilot bearing. Wiggle the tranny to help this happen. If you have a spare yoke, stick it on the output shaft so you can turn the shaft back and forth to help with alignment. When it's right, it will pop right in, no excessive force needed.
