Problem Downshifting

I have a 95 Z28 with a 6 speed transmission (completely stock). Recently I've had problems downshifting from 6th to 5th gear. 5th gear seems to be locked out but I can downshift to any other gear from sixth. Can anyone shed some light as to whats wrong and possibly how to fix it?
Thanks

Do you sometimes have problems upshifting from 4th to 5th?
I just had to rebuild my t-56 for this exact same problem. It started as just not being able to downshift to 5th, then after a while I couldn't upshift with out a little bit of grinding.

Bottom line. the T56 has Plastic shift fork pads then can and will split and fall off the fork, there fore not moving the sync. assembly far enough. Or in my case one side broke cocking the sync assembly therefore not allowing it to ingage the dog teeth of 5th.

I'm having the same problem. I can upshift to 5th just fine although sometimes it will pop back out if I don't engage it hard enough, but cannot do a direct downshift from 6th.
