Pro 5.0 question

Well I got a pro 5.0 shifter for christmas just like I wanted, only problem is I have no gasket sealer! I have to install it today cuz i have no other time during the week. Problem is every store is closed today! I got some all purpose silicone sealent from a neighbor. Will that work? As far as ive herd the atv sealent is just to keep out the road grime, and minimize vibrations, so wouldnt a strong silicone do just fine? Thanks for the help guys, merry christmas!

At the very least it will work for now until you can get some regular RTV. If it doesnt work you might want to change the tranny fluid if any contaminants got in there.

Personally, I would wait until you get the right stuff; never know what's really in that sealant and if it will react with anything.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

I wouldn't trust a regular silicone sealant in areas where temps change over a wide range. I know it sounds hard but.... you might want to wait until tomorrow and run by somewhere like autozone or advance auto and pick up some RTV in the orange tube (copper).

Re: Pro 5.0 question

thanks for the replys, I decided to wait, and did it right today with rtv sealent. Anyways so far I really like it, I just get this grinding noise though coming up from the shifter. Sounds like its coming through the transmission. I think its further proving my thought that my clutch is way dead. I think small parts of my clutch might be completely gone and there might be some metal to metal contact on the flywheel. Is that possible?

Re: Pro 5.0 question

Yup, that is possible, but more likely your hearing the T.O. bearing being shot; metal to metal on clutches can happen, but normally it doesn't happen without either major damage, or major miles.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

Would you happen to have the part number for a new TO bearing? Im ordering the Z06 clutch assembly soon off of gm parts direct. Thanks for the help.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

Keep in mind T56 transmissions are notoriously noisy. If the sound happens when you are easing away from a stop, and is quieter the more gas you give it, then it shouldnt be anything to worry about.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

On LTX cars atleast, the TOB is part of the PP assembly.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

Not sure if the Z06 clutch needs it's own PP or not, but if not you might want to make sure the rivets in the clutch disk aren't contacting your flywheel if it's as worn as you say. The longer they grind, the less chance you'll have of reusing the stock flywheel. I've heard many times that you can only have the stock FW resurfaced safely 1 or 2 times, which isn't a lot of material. If the rivets cut into it very much, you'll have to chunk it and get another one.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

this vibration type noise from the shifter increases with the revs. It sounds like a fast rattle. coming right up through the shifter. All shifter bolts are tight. I'm thinking something has to be up in the transmission, or clutch assembly.

Re: Pro 5.0 question

sounds almost like the normal T56 growl that they all have... The shifter gets rid of the rubber isolation that your stock shifter had; thus allowing all the vibrations, noises, etc into the passenger compartment and into your arm. This is sometimes even more amplified with a poly transmission mount.
