Pro 5.0-Not returning to center.

Im pretty pissed at the moment. Spent $170 and the shifter does not return to the center when its in Neutral. It returns ok from 5th and 6th, but to the left by 1-2 it will stay there if I let it go and not go to the middle?

Whats up with this? This cant be how its supposed to operate.

Anyone know what the set screws on the side of the base are for?

The set screws on the sides of the base hold the metal sleeves into the base; all internal parts.

My guess is that you have some worn parts in the tranny and the springs that are in the shifter do not have enough force to compensate for the increased force required to re-center the shifter. If this is a brand new shifter, I'd say contact the Manufacturer, from what I've heard they are extremely helpful.

If this is a used shifter, I can let you know what stiffer springs to use to replace the stockers inside the shifter at the end of the week. I've got my T56 and Pro 5.0 all torn apart for a rebuild and I had a similar problem, but my Pro 5.0 has 50K on it, and the tranny has 97+K on it with plenty of internal wear. I'm going to be upping the spring pressure in the shifter anyways, I just need to measure them and find a decent replacement but I'm out of town on work related duties and won't be back till friday.

The shifter is brand new. I dont think the problem is related to the tranny at all. The factory hurst I had in before this had no problems at all centering itself. I will probably just take it apart and see about finding some stiffer springs. Will probably be easier and faster than shipping the thing back to them.

Has anyone else needed to replace these springs?

Cool! Im looking for stronger springs to center my shifter too. Let me know when you find a suitable replacement.

I had this problem too. The way I fixed it was to put some washers in the ends of the springs inside the shifter to compress the springs down a little more. The hardest part is just finding the right size washer, other then that it's an easy fix.

I've had my shifter for a couple years now and no problems. Do a search for further information on the subject.
