Re: Pro 5.0

I will likely be jumped on for saying this, but my B&M has shorter throws and a better feel than my friends Pro 5.0, his also is more difficult for me to throw from 2nd to 3rd.

Re: Pro 5.0

I have driven 2 cars with pro 5.0 shifters and both were very difficult to shift! It almost takes 2 hands to move the shifter side to side and I am not a weak guy. The stock shifter works perfectly fine. Get a shorter stick and it will work great.

Re: Pro 5.0

didnt care for the stock tower all that much. I bought a 5.0 tower and short stick and really could tell a difference

Re: Pro 5.0

I've driven a good many M6s with different shifters. By far, the Pro5.0 is the best shifter out there. Smooth, accurate, and worth every penny. I've missed a few 3rd gear shifts, but mainly due to a failing slave cylinder not fully disengaging the clutch. When i get the M6 back in my car, the Pro5.0 is going back in with it and staying there.

I have the pro 5.0.. one of the first mods I did. Definitely a good shifter compared to stock. Its really hard to explain the difference aside from saying it make you feel more in control. I did notice the shifter was quite stiff but over time it loosens up and now its just perfect effortless and precise shifts every time.

Aye, I know the stock Hurst isn't the best, but I haven't had any problems with the 2-3 shift, and I learned how to drive a stick when I bought my car in August. The times I miss a shift have been from the transmission wobbling so much from a worn tranny mount.

Re: Pro 5.0

Yea, if you powershift your car at the track you will eventually miss a 2-3 shift. If you don't you aren't shifting fast enough i like my pro 5.0 but it is in storage now and i haven't shifter any other short throws. Pluss the stick has 2 or so inches threaded on the stick so you can cut it off where ever you want to, i cut it off so its about an inch shorter than stock.

Re: Pro 5.0

Just about any aftermarket shifter will be an improvement. Hursts get a bad name for their crappy shifters put in the SS's and WS6 cars. I have a chrome Hurst billet plus shifter and it looks beautiful and shifts great. It shifts 10x better than Brads (turbo_z's) Pro 5.0. I've driven both.

Re: Pro 5.0

Ok,

I've been thinking about getting the Pro too. I don't have any problems with 2nd to 3rd, but overall I'd say the gearbox is crap. Notchy type shifting, long throws and in general vague shifts. The only time it works well is when I'm really on it then everything goes well. Try shifting gears too early at low rev (in town driving to save $) and well, welcome to vagueness........

Like I said 2nd to third is cake....but 6th down to 5th was near impossible (I usually just go to fourth and realize this is proably the least necc shift) until I had synchros rebuilt under warranty. Also, getting into 5th too early was like wallowing around.....(synchros helped on that too)

Basically, will the pro 5.0 give me a better shifting experience with nice crisp easy to find shifts or just give my vague shifts with a shorter lifetime......

If I could do it over again I would have gotten an A4......sounds like the gto has the same crappy setup.

anyways.....whaa whaa whaa

Re: Pro 5.0

If you've ever taken off the inspection cover that's on top of the trans, you'll see how you "feel" the gates. There's a grooved collar on the main shift rod with a spring-loaded "domed" pin assembly pressing into the grooves. You could be having problems with that pin or spring if you can't feel each gate. I've heard that some shifters feel too notchy b/c of geometry issues.... the end of the rod on the shifter that goes into the plastic cup (under the shifter, on the end of the main shift rod) doesn't follow the same arc or radius that the rod follows when twisting. The cup on mine didn't show any signs of uneven wear, so i believe that the pro5.0 probably has the geometry thing figured out. A buddy of mine had a B&M shifter and it didn't feel near as smooth as mine did. When he went to the pro5.0 with a lou's short stick, it was even better than mine. And the hurst shifters on the SS and two WS6s i test drove were kinda the same way, being a little more notchy and not as good a feel. Just my experiences with them.
