Pro 5.0

aight guys, im VERY hesitant to buy a shifter. What is the BIG difference in purchasing one (are the shifts smoother and easier) im not sure if it's worth it? Now, my car is stock and i'm not sure if that's a need right now? what's the best one? And is the Pro 5.0 Shifter on EBay the REAL PRO 5.0!??!

Drive your car for a bit. Keep count on how many times you miss the gear you're aiming to hit. When that count exceeds your frustration meter by a new shift tower. It only took me about a month.

Cool Re: Pro 5.0

Have one for years. Nice piece with a short stick on it. It is not a short throw mechanism like SLP or B&M pieces.

If you have no problems with the 2-3 shift then it really doesn't make too much of a difference. I had no problem shifting with my stocker with a short stick on it, still have it.

I fell into the impulse buy mode from the daily shifter posts when I first got the Z.

Re: Pro 5.0

I had the stock SS shifter with a short stick before I got my Pro 5.0. I didn't see a huge difference in performence, but it does make me feel better having those stops there, just piece of mind.

But if we're talking about performence, the SS shifter with a short stick (IN MY OPINION) is the best deal, especially if you're strapped for cash

Re: Pro 5.0

I just installed a Pro 5.0 a couple of weeks ago.

It IS as short throw shifter by the way. It's pivot point is higher than the stock shifter, which means more movement in the shift mechanism vs throw.

The Pro 5.0 has a LOT of thread on the top of the handle. I cut mine down so that about 3/4" -1" of threads were left. That was plenty for the stock shift ball to screw on to.

My shift throws went from 6" stock to 4" with the Pro 5.0 (yes I measured it) A good portion of that is just due to the shorter stick, but not all.

I haven't acutally taken the car out for a drive yet with the new shifter, so I can't give you a very accurate review of it, but I can tell you that it is more notchy and solid. Is it smoother? It doesn't seem that way when I was moving it around with the car running. Effort was a little higher with the Pro 5.0. Will I like it? I'm not sure. After installing it, I wondered if I could have gotten much of the same benefit from just shortening the stick on the stock shifter. If you cut your lower shift boot correctly, and adjust the stops correctly, it's very quiet too.

There is nothing in the shifter mechanism to make it a whole lot different than stock. It just has a pivot point with centering springs, just like stock. It has adjustable stops, which are nice to make sure you don't bend a shift fork. It's centering spring is weaker than stock also, so most of the time mine will center itself, but not always. That might be due a lot to how cold it is now though.

As of right now, it's worth about 75% of what I paid for it, in my opinion. ($160 new) My view might change entirely once I drive it though. I just know how my stock shifter felt when my car was idling, and how this one feels now, and that is what I'm basing my decision on so far.

Dan

Mine didn't center well at all. Go get some washers (make sure to measure first) at a hardware store, and put them on top of the right spring, this will make the spring back tighter.

Re: Pro 5.0

I bang 2nd and 3rd like no one's business and mine is stock.

I have NO problems hitting 3rd with the stock shifter.

Get the 5.0, you will wonder how you did without it. Not only does it have a shorter throw it has a mega spring in it, when you shift from 2nd to 3rd all that is needed is that you push straight up. I love it. Plus it comes with stops so you don't jam your syncro's when shifting hard.

Exactly.... i had the stock shifter for 2 months... and i liked it and was hesitant to change over, but i did it anyway, and all i can say is if i went back i would miss my gears 90% of the time..... trust me i installed it myself, not hard at all! there is a walk through Here the pro 5.0 made the #1 difference in my driving style.... when i go fron 2nd to 3rd, all i have to do it push it straight up with my pinky finger... can you say the same for the stocker? My vote...

Pro 5.0 All of the way...

also check out my cardomain page (below) for some install pics... if you would like more pics PM me!
