Exclamation Post what tranny you have and your thoughts.

I did a search and didn't find a lot of info on too many trannies. Most people just say go with this or dont go with that (so please dont post just that), but I dont care about that, I care about facts from the people who have them.

So I figure that this thread will help everyone who is looking to rebuild or buy a new tranny. I am mainly concerned about 4L60Es, but others are welcomed to post for other shoppers to see. The main two are Pro-built & CPT, but again others are welcome. And please lets keep the actual business owners out of this to keep out obviously bias opinions (I hope you guys can respect this). If we get enough posts, this would be good to sticky, IMO.

Where did you get your tranny?
What rebuild or tranny did you get?
What options did you get?
How much was it?
How many miles have you had it?
What kind of driving do you do with it?
How many track passes do you have on it?
How much HP & TQ do you have?
What problems have you had with it?
What problems did you have with the shop?
Anything else to add?

Thanks guys!

Re: Post what tranny you have and your thoughts.

Stock 130K mile 4l60e - hundreds of track passes - 11.40's@120+ - thousands of street miles (was a 2 year daily driver weekend warrior) 431rwhp/475tq - 3000 Midwest 2.5 converter - 3.42's - 1.6 60's - race twice a week 2 seperate tracks - hit most events/track rentals. Basically my tranny is/was abused for the 4 years i've owned it. I think maybe 2-4 tranny services the entire time?

This coming season it will have a race built Baker Performance trans by Scott Baker - www.bakerperformanceparts.com

Should be around the 450-475rwhp mark this year, looking for 1.5 60's. I'm sure we'll be test bedding the trans - he may do a few more here and there but probably only for local guys. My cousin, Handyman, has one in his car now and it's great.

Scott is a well established veteran circle track (Hooters, ASA) driver and car builder but his 'specialty' is transmissions.

Re: Post what tranny you have and your thoughts.

Where did you get your tranny? CPT - Cahall Performance Transmissions
What rebuild or tranny did you get? Race Rebuild
What options did you get? None from them for the tranny, but did a converter and tranny cooler at the same time...
How much was it? $1000 for the rebuild, just under $2k for everything including tools needed to remove the tranny to the last drop of fluid put in...
How many miles have you had it? about 2 yrs, and over 9500 miles
What kind of driving do you do with it? Unfortunatly, mostly street, but a good deal of track time too. I really wanted this car to be a track only by the end of last year, but my daily driver blew the motor so had to keep this as a daily car longer...
How many track passes do you have on it? I have slips for over 30 passes on it since then, plus there are more street races too, plus 3 dyno sesions (dyno is pretty hard on a tranny)...
How much HP & TQ do you have? Dyoned at 301.3rwhp and 338.1rwtq on a mustang dyno, and track times are in my sig...
What problems have you had with it? I never really had a problem with it, but there were a few times I called Frank thinking it was the tranny to find out it wasn't, and Frank helped me diagnose the problem, not just stating it's not his tranny. The bigest problem is I keep tearing up tranny mounts, I gotta invest in poly...
What problems did you have with the shop? Well to be honest, I did have a slight delay, but that wasn't CPT's fault it was actually the parts suplier, they sent steels that were out of spec, luckily Frank mic's every one before he installs then to get perfect clearances. I still got it done in less then a week.
Anything else to add? I am a big advocate of Frank and his work, he is a great guy who actually sits with you and tells you what is what, he actually let me come and watch him build my tranny, since then we have become friends...
