possible bad torque converter?
possible bad torque converter?
Okay, last week i blew the front seal on my tranny and drained all the fluid (while i was driving
). I had it towed to the tranny place to have the seal replaced, and everything seems good, however, i have my valve body wired so the torque converter locks up right at 50 in 4th gear, and it had been working great until this point. now maybe 1/4 of the time it locks up like it should, the rest of the time it doesn't at all. I also hear a kind of whirring noise that i didn't have before, and sometimes when i'm stopped and it's in drive i hear a ticking/pinging noise coming from around the torque converter area, almost like something is bouncing around in there
I don't have the cash to buy a new one now, but i will in a couple of weeks. Do you guys think this is the problem? Also, what stall speed do you reccomend? I think the 2500 i have in there is very tame, thinking of something in the 3000 to 3500 range. thanks.

Re: possible bad torque converter?
Well i can tell you that you might just have a bad tranny. when the front seal goes you have fluid gushing out at about 150 p.s.i. By the time you realize it and slow down, it's sometimes to late for the tranny (neutral won't help because the pump is still spinning). Was anything taken apart, or just a new seal put it? Seals popping out of the 4L60's (700R4) are extremely common. You are supposed to drill out the oil holes in the pump and their are some other small things that should be updated on them. If you search the net or go to a tranny shop, they'll have a manual on the updates. I'm willing to be you almost toasted it. I'd just buy a new one, a rebuild won't do you any good what so ever.

I have a similar issue. The car drives just fine, but there is this ticking noise that almost sounds like an exhaust leak coming from around the TC. I bought a new one, but have yet to take on the daunting task of installing it. I'll TTT this one for you in hopes we can both get some more information on this. I was hoping this was one of those easy ones where everyone says "Oh that's the .......". Oh well.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS...is this the tc? it just doesnt lock up i believe, because my Gas Mileage is worse, and when i downshift(Automatic) it doesnt send the RPM's up at all, i seriously believe it is time for a Tranny rebuild...it has 155 K on it, also, does anybody else have any problems on theyre car not locking into park? alot of times i put my car in park, and it will not lock in, just drifts back....have to hook ebrake, could this be the TC?
