New eaton posi/gear install

I have a question. Does the car need to be driven hard in order to break in the new eaton posi/gears or can it be driven regularly to be broken in.

Re: New eaton posi/gear install

Follow the instructions that came with the gears or contact the manufacturer to find out. The Richmonds I used said to drive for 10mi. then let it cool for 30min. Repeat several times w/out jumping on a freeway or romping on the throttle. New gears will run very hot until they break in so extended high speed driving is not good for a brand new set. I learned this the hard way Also change the gear lube after 500-600mi, your new bearings will love you

Guess your bearings ain't gonna love you after all . . .

I'd recommend stopping on the way and getting it changed. As the gears break in they will put a lot of metal particles in the lube and the longer they stay in there, the more wear you will have on everything in the rearend.
