Poly Trans Mount - CrossMember Modification!? Help

I ripped my stock mount to ****, so I got an Energy Suspension one from autozne for about 24 bucks. In installed it by jacking up the tranny, removing bolt from bottom of corssmember(center) to release old mount, unbolting cross member, removing two bolts on tranny from existing mount, took new Energy Suspension mount, put plate thing on top,(made sure it was pointing right way) put 2 bolts into tranny w/ washers, put crossmember back on, noticed that the center whole on the new mount didnt quite lineup w/ the crossmember, so I pulled the cross member as far over to the drivers side as possible(has a little play in it), and slid the new mount over to the passenger side as much as possible (has some play in it as well). I then had to file/drill out some of the existing hole in the crossmember to get the screw to go in nicely( It just barely didnt make it as it was), then put a washer and locking washer on it and tightened it all up. People are telling me I shouldnt have had to do that, and I should have pry the trannsmisison w/ something to get it to line up instead of modifying the crossmember?, I cant see how the trans would move at all, seeing that it is bolted to the engine? Anyone ever done this before or have some insight? My car is a 93 pontiac formula A4 ( I know on the v6;s you have to modify)

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I moved this here.

The trans may be bolted to the engine, but the engine is sitting on rubber pads (motor mounts). It's entirely possible for the engine to shift, particularly if you jacked the bottom of the tranny and didn't have the jack centered.

Not a good idea to file/drill holes and permanently misalign the longitudinal axis of the drivetrain.

Moving to "Drivetrain"

No, what you said makes sense, just wanted more opinions. Anyways today I went and loosen up the botls and was able to, it semmed like shimmy the tranny over some, so its all good now.

Re: Poly Trans Mount - CrossMember Modification!? Help

I ran into a similiar issue with my 95.
The ES mount has it's mounting holes and stud holes all in a line.
The stock (and 1LE) mounts appears to be offset by about 3/4"
I know others have run into this as well. Some have drilled new holes.

I assume the 93 will have the same issue when I do it this week.
I want it lined up properly, I just don't know which one is "correct"
