Please help Transmisson Acting up ??

Thanks for taking the time to read this post ,

One night i was driving my 1994 z28 auto and it shifted hard into 2 and 3 and after noicted the fluid was low . went home evrything still worked fine . parked her and she sat for 2-3 months b/c battery was dead and dint want to hurt her by driving around .

Now today i jumped her and she started right up . BUT , When i just in reverse the car did not even torue down like it went into gear And i have to rev her up to even get her to roll a little Alot of slip . in drive she better she trouqes down like she goes into drive but has slip too but not as much as in rev . i dint drive her just went like 20 feet each way .

So, i checked the trans fluid and its low dont even touch the dipstick and sall a little smoke come out of the trans fluid dipstick hose so i turned her off. also noticed that the pavement under my car was moist with a oily subtance all other fluids on car are good.

So my questions are did i mess the trans up ? And

Or can just the trans being very low on fluid cause this? if so could i have messed it up at al ?

i will dropp the pan and change the fluid and filter what should i look for when i do ???

i would fill it up with fluid first... there is a chance that it will work fine after you put fluid back in it.

if it still slips after you fill it up....then it is probably ruined.

For someone who's only posted 5 times, you're making a very bold and UNTRUE statement. If you believe 4L60E is "Junk", then obviously you've never had one rebuilt correctly. I've got many 4L60E's in race cars that I've built....Any day you'd like to line your "superior" M6 car up with an 11.0 second nitroused 4L60E car, we can arrange something.
First of all, if you haven't noticed...most peoplke switch TO an auto when they start running fast.

Frank, i wasn't trying to sound cocky and stir up trouble . from my experience with the 4l60e, i feel they are not a very good transmission, (when they are stock). i have been through 3 stock ones myself and i have a built one right now. i just don't like it. and i wanted a change

i never said the m6 was better, and i know the 4l60e can be made to last.... if you put the money into it.

i never said my car was superior and my car isn't a 11.0 quarter mile car either, it should run a low to mid 12. so i will pass on racing you.

the only reason i am putting an m6 in my car is beacuse it is my daily driver and i want better gas mileage.

i know i am a noob, and i don't want to make a bad first impression.

It's all good. No problem. I do take offense when I see people picking on the '60E. I've put alot of research and time in them to make them capable of running the way we do. You're right, though...the 60E in stock form has many short comings. The SKF input spag, 2-4 band, 3-4 clutches, etc...As well as the fact that they don't carry full volume/pressure at high RPM's.

Yes, 6 speeds are fun to drive, but they lack consistancy, and they're harder on rears. Many can also be picky about launching.

BTW, my personal car only runs 12.0 with a stock bottom end, CC305, and ported heads...Of course I'm building a 6" rod, 847 cammed 355 that will get a 200 shot of NX. Looking to go low10's/high 9's...WITH THE A4.
The 11.0 car I was referring to is one of my customers car.

So, with all this out of the way, welcome to our forum. In reality, it doesn't matter if you've got a 6 speed or an auto...The important part is, you've got an F-Body. That's why we're all here.
Just don't judge a 60E until you've had one built by the best. I can't advertise my prices on here, but I'll bet that I could've built you a race 60E that you would've been extremely happy with...For less than you'll have invested in the M6 swap If you get curious enough, I'm sure you can find what my prices are...LOL

I'm sorry about that. It sounds like low fluid level. Get it in the right place and then see what happens. I didn't reply directly because your first response suggested this. If it's still acting up after you add fluid, we'll track it from there. Let me know what you find out.

Re: Please help Transmisson Acting up ??

no slip now !!!

I changed evrything like i said and its good now . the filter seal gave me a little headake . was stuck up there and i only had my car on jack stands . was a B i T c H. But i got it with a big srewdriver. i put 3 qaurts in and seemed low after i started it up so i added a 4 qaurt . and then took her for a test drive works like new again . But the old oil has black and burnt , BUT no metal shaving at all no to the naked eye on the magnet . I got no oil when i took of all of the bolts but all bolts where lose they where on so a simple twist would break them , and oil was on the bolt heads. when i dropped the pan there was only maybe a 1-2 qaurts of fluid.

I have a question ?????? how many qaurts of fluid does the 4l60e hold and the converter hold ? How much fluid should i put in ???? I put 4 1/2 qaurts in and it looks okay . Should i out more in or what whats the right amount to add after the pan is dropped ??

Did you see a "black soot" (a dark film) covering the bottom of the pan away from the magnet? If so, could you write you name in it with your finger? If you could, then you most likely have burnt the 2-4 band, 3-4 clutches, or both. Either way it will need to be rebuilt. Let us know, what you have seen?

Re: Please help Transmisson Acting up ??

there was a little black sout but not that bad mainly from the dirty fluid and the magnet had a dense silver liqud on it about 1/18 thick
