Please Help: Moser 12 bolt leaking at the brake disk. Seals hard to replace?

Hello All,

I use my TA for open track days. After the last event at VIR, I was changing the tires and there was axel oil all over the Driver side disk (mostly right hand turns). I suppose its a seal. I haven't taken it apart yet. Is it a major operation to replace the seal(s)?

I use the car for open track days. I guess it develops lots of side loads in turns if that has anything to do w/bringing this on. Does this also indicate the bearing is shot?

Comments on repair welcome. No, greatly needed! Please!

Regards
Steve

We have a Moser 12 bolt with the tappered road race bearings and I believe we had to replace a seal last year. Let me check with my other guy who did it and I'll post his answer for you here tomorrow.

Well the seal is rather easy to replace, unbolt the caliper bracket (4 bolts) and pull the axle out, you will see the seal in the tube and it is real easy to replace. The bearing also has an O ring around the outer surface, which usually needs some lubrication to insert it into the tubes. If it doesn't have many miles I doubt the bearing is bad, probably just a seal should be under a $10 fix with some labor

The seal you need is a Chicago Rawhide seal from Napa. The number is 15142. There the same seals Moser puts in their housings for the 12bolt Fbody rears.
