Adding fluid to an m6

I know it might be a dumb question but i was wondering if i could add tranny fluid through the shifter hole so i dont have to jack up my car and use a pump.

Re: Adding fluid to an m6

I suppose you could but if you don't already have it apart it's not worth the effort plus if anything fell into the space below the shifter like gasket material or dirt, dumping fluid from the top will just flush it into the tranny. If you get a long enough length of hose you can just stick one end in the fill hole on the side of the tranny, fish the rest through the engine compartment and just have someone dump fluid in it and let gravity help you out. Just stay underneath the car so you know when its full and to keep the tube from popping out and making a mess.

Yeah you can, I did it on a T5, I pulled the shifter out to swap to a ls1speed inc short stick and poured new fluid in their.

Re: Adding fluid to an m6

just wanted to add about a half quart of fluid because when i filled from under the car only the front end was jacked up. so i dont think it is completly full and its just a tad hard to shift.

Definitely remove the fill plug to check the level. Dont assume, assumptions lead to mistakes. But filling throught the shifter hole is exactly what I and everyone I know does...its just easier. Shouldnt be hard to keep it clean around that area anyway.

Re: Adding fluid to an m6

Why not just empty the whole thing and replace with new ATF fluid. Should be exactly 4 quarts.

Re: Adding fluid to an m6

Normally, I fill through the Shifter with the fill plug removed so when it begins to leak, I know it's full.
