Unhappy Please help! Clutch is clicking after install

1995 Trans Am
NEW Zoom Clutch

I just finished putting the new clutch in and when i fired it up there is an insanely loud "metal-on-metal" clicking noise coming from the bellhousing/clutch area. the frequency of hte click seems to be once every revolution of the engine, and i can hear it LOUDLY over my very very very loud exhaust. The noise does not change with the clutch engaged or disengaged, or in neutral....the noise remains the same and speeds up with engine rpm.

Any/all help is GREATLY appreciated. i want my car back!!!!

p.s. you can catch me all night on aim at ihatericer5hit

I had the same problem with a Ram clutch once. The clutch fork was barely hitting the pressure plate. I called Ram and they said to machine the clutch fork pivot bushing. It would have been nice if they included that in their directions! I would call the ZOOM and ask them if the recommend machining the clutch fork bushing. We machined the bushing slightly and that took care of the problem.

Re: Please help! Clutch is clicking after install

ok i found it...finally got a look under the car and the dust shield is pinched between the starter and the bellhousing...i started the car and placed a screwdriver on the dust shield and the tapping is DEFINATELY coming from the shield.

so my next question is...can i just drop the starter to bend/cut the shield out of the way or do i need to drop the whole trans/bellhousing?

Thats good, thats a much easier problem than the clutch fork. You can remove the starter and take that entire shield off if you want to without removing the trans. Just a few 10mm (i think) bolts.
