Pilot Bearing Disinigrated

Anyone ever had a pilot bearing totally disinigrate on them? Well thats what happend to me. When we were changing the clutch my friend went to pull the pilot bearing out and couldnt find it, my other friend pointed to the pile of dust on the ground and in the trans and there it was, totally gone. That was a new one for us. Well the new clutch is in and its fine now, no damage was done but i got lucky.
