I had a set of used GM 3.42's installed. They didn't make a noise and lasted 2 1/2 years of low low 11 second passes @ 126+. So if they are installed right they should be fine.

Werd. The only thing gears may do (if installed properly) is possibly cause you to loose a little MPG, and put a big grin on your face. Oh yeah, you may go through tires quicker also.

Doh! I missed the USED part of the question. If you get used gears, you'll definitely have to take it t a VERY good installer if you want to minimize noise. If the gears are good, some whining my be your only problem.
