People that have blown a 4L60E inside please
Re: People that have blown a 4L60E inside please
what are the actual symtoms, did it lock up, free spin, or does it just slip a lot? does you car have TC? because the sensor would be in the rear fi not and on the wheels if you do have TC. Not realy sure why ABS light is on for blowing trans, if it locked up then I would understand a low trac light.

it went ito a free spin, and the car will move for about 100ft if it cools for about 15-20 min afterthat it feels like its reving in neutral, my TC is stock.
does this tell you anything?

Yea it means time for a new tranny, ask me how I know...
My second tranny (2 went in a year) did exactly that
It will get worse until you will have no forward gears, ask me how I know...
I drove my car 5 miles in reverse to get home.
Pro-Built Automatic is shipped and ready for install

i killed 2 transimissions, niether time did the abs light come on.
Definately sounds like you burnt the clutches, and probably the 2-4 band.
I had mine rebuilt by Frank (12scndz) who is starting to do them as a business,it lasted 2 years of serious abuse, before i snapped the output shaft from too much torque/traction.

Re: People that have blown a 4L60E inside please
i fragged the sunshell in my stock 4L60E. i had a VERY slight ability to move in first gear (if the car was at 4000 rpm, it would go 1-2 mph), no shift into second and no reverse whatsoever. no ABS light though.
i think this could be your problem and here's why.
if the trans progressively got worse and now slips a lot, i'd say fried clutch packs. if it worked fine and then all of a sudden didn't, it's a broken hard part and the most likely one to go is the fragile stock sunshell.
unless you had a catastrophic sudden drop in line pressure or something, i can't really see you burning up the band or clutches all at once.
hope this helps.

Re: People that have blown a 4L60E inside please
It actually happened at the track on a N20 Pass!!hehehe the trans didnt like the 100 shot with Mickey thomphson ET Drags.!!lol
Re: People that have blown a 4L60E inside please
the second time my trans broke,i snapped the output shaft deep inside the trans, only had about 3" from the top of the shaft to the fracture points.
that was on a 175 hit,spooled 9" and hoosiers.

broke the case and sunshell out of a 700-R4 (same thing). Downshifted to 2nd to play with another 3G. Trans had 3 and 4...that was it, no park, 1 or 2. Found out really quickly the 700-R4's don't like 400 crank HP and about the same TQ stock.
